You shouldn’t leave your cell-phone on. I am serious about this. You don’t want to be having a great family picnic or hike and get a business call. It ruins everything. Just turn of the little tech-gremlin and check your phone messages in the evening if you must.

Don’t ever tell your kids that they can charge restaurant items to the room.

When on vacation never assume you do not need sun screen.

Never take an obligatory work of non-fiction or that self-help book that you need to get to. It just ruins everything. Indulge yourself and give your mind–and soul–a vacation by reading a delightful novel, or at very least, an inspiring biography. I still remember the many characters, historical or fictitious, whom I have met on the beach, at the cabin, and on the airplane. I still carry them in my heart because I met them on vacation.

Never assume when you get back that you won’t need another vacation right away!
